Description:Enginvest™ was selected to be a part of the engineering design team to assist in developing a safe and reliable design of the debottlenecking project in the primary separation area.


The Athabasca Oil Sands Project is a joint venture between Shell Canada (60%), Chevron Canada Limited (20%) and Marathon Oil Canada Corporation (20%), with Shell being operator and majority shareholder operating at rate of 155,000 bbl/day. The site is located in north of Fort McMurray, Alberta.

Asset: Horizon Oil Sands - Froth Treatment Plant (FTP)


Description: Enginvestwas selected to conduct the risk assessment study (HAZOP) for the Froth Treatment Plant and report on the findings.


CNRL’s $7.5 Billion Horizon Oil Sands plant is located north of Fort McMurray, Alberta, Canada. the project has a synthetic crude oil (SCO) production of approximately 110,000 bbl/d. The froth treatment plant is responsible of producing diluted bitumen that is upgraded even further into marketable products such as Synthetic Crude Oil (SCO).

Project: Pike Program - Pike 1


Description:Enginvest™ was selected to assist with the development of the risk management process guidelines, create and provide training to all Pike 1 project department teams on the revamped risk management system.


Pike 1 project is an in-situ oils sands project in the Southern Athabasca Oil Sands region utilizing the Steam Assisted Gravity Drainage (SAGD) technology. This project is expected to produce 109,000 barrels per day of bitumen.

Project: The Joslyn North Mine project is an oil sands mining project is joint venture between Total (38.25%), Suncor (36.75%), Occidental Petroleum (15%), and Impex (10%). The mine is located 65km of McMurray, Alberta, Canada. This is an $11 billion project which is expected to have a production capacity of 160,000 barrels per day of bitumen.

Plant: Joslyn - Ore Preparation Plant (OPP)

Description: Enginvest™ was selected to conduct the risk assessment studies (HAZOP & SIL) for the plant.
Ore Preparation Plant (OPP) is where the ore is crushed and prepared for transport to the extraction plant where bitumen is separated from the sand.

Plant: Joslyn - Froth Treatment Plant

Description:  Enginvest™ was selected to conduct the risk assessment study (HAZOP & SIL) for the plant.

During froth treatment, bitumen froth from froth production is mixed with paraffinic solvent (C5) to precipitate asphaltenes and improve product quality.

Plant: Joslyn - Tailings, Pipelines and Corridors

Description: Enginvest™ was selected to conduct the risk assessment study (HAZOP & SIL) for the plant.

Tailings are by-products of bitumen extraction process and pipelines were used to move the products to other parts of the plant.  The study team identified, assessed and treated safety, environmental and technical risks for the project. Facilitation period was 1 week and project was completed on schedule.

Description: Enginvest™ was selected to conduct the risk assessment study (HAZOP & SIL) for the plant.

Utilities and Offsites (U&O) is to produce and distribute utilities to consumers in different parts of the plant.
